If you’re looking to freshen garments between cleanings, Kimono Kitsune offers Refresh Mist—a gentle spray made with natural ingredients and essential oils, designed to help remove odors from kimono and other delicate garments without harsh chemicals.

While we’re not professional kimono cleaners, we’re happy to share helpful resources from knowledgeable people:

Silk & Bones – Becky shares a series of tutorials on her blog about kimono cleaning and restoration. A quick warning—the content is informative and entertaining, but includes adult language.

Billy Matsunaga – A certified kimono instructor and stylist based in Japan, Billy offers a helpful “How to Clean Kimono” (The Kimono Cleaning Guide) video on her YouTube channel.

Mitasky – Though we haven’t used their services ourselves, this cleaning service came recommended by a US-based kimono enthusiast.

Standards of condition are handled as objectively as possible, given the fact that every item has had different treatment before it reaches us. Review our GRADE AND CONDITION GUIDE to better understand how we grade the condition of an item.

There are upwards of 18 decillion colors in the existence, although the human eye can only distinguish about 10 million. We are trying to keep things more simple and unambiguous by sticking to twenty-one.

We look at an item and select the color name that is closest one of the colors in our standard set, which are composed of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors (typical color wheel) as well as neutrals. We also include metallic Gold and Silver as well as the tint, Pink.

These are the standard colors we will use in our product listings.

Colors

PRIMARY: Red, Yellow, Blue
SECONDARY: Orange, Green, Violet
TERTIARY: Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange, Yellow-Green, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, Red-Violet
NEUTRAL: White, Black, Gray, Cream, Beige, Brown
TINT: Pink
METALLIC: Gold, Silver
